As small business owners, our time is limited. We want maximum results for minimum effort! Unlike the treadmill of your favorite social media platform, Pinterest doesn’t require a lot of constant input.

That’s right – Pinterest is less like Instagram or Facebook, but more like a visual version of Google. That’s why we’re always trying to make the optimizations we can to catch up with Pinterest’s ever-changing algorithm.
What does this mean for you? A pin has a very long life. It’s the same as a blog post or a YouTube video! And it is very different from an Instagram post or a tweet, which will not be shown to anyone after a few hours or days.

More news to make you happy – each pin directs people to your site (or wherever you want to send them).
Unlike Instagram, where everything is aimed at getting users to stay on the platform, Pinterest is very different. Users looking for a pin they like? They have to click on it to read your blog post! The pin is like a visual invitation to the user to read more.
So the ultimate goal of a Pinterest pin is to get your target audience to click on the pin and either share some of the content you create, or buy a product if it’s a product pin.
Another key difference between Pinterest and how it relates to business owners. You know how on Facebook and Instagram, businesses aren’t as accessible? Not so Pinterest!

You can create your pin and write your text from Pinterest. Read on to learn how I make my pins, because there’s a whole art to that! You usually need graphic design software which is usually free.
The last and very important aspect of a pin I talked about is that it should have a clickable link back to your website. Some pins will go to your homepage but most will link to blog posts.

After setting up your business account, you can edit a custom branded URL as mentioned above. To do that, go to Settings > Edit Profile > Username. If you change the username, your URL will change automatically. So choose something that matches your name or brand, if possible.
