Additional features such as payroll and tax reporting make this platform ideal for growing businesses. As your business grows, you will likely need these additional features. If you start with a different invoicing platform, you have to switch or juggle multiple platforms. Advanced features aren’t free, but they’re affordable (Payments start at $20 per month, for example), and you don’t have to switch apps as your business grows.

Although PayPal’s features are basic, especially compared to powerful platforms like Wave, its ease of use and trust in its brand make it a strong contender. And you can do more by connecting with PayPal so you can automate your invoicing workflow. Here are some examples to get you started.
Zoho Invoice is one of the best invoicing tools on this list. To be honest, I was amazed at all the features included in their free plan.
Submitting an online invoice is simple: enter your business name, location and currency. Customize your invoice by adding invoice terms, uploading files, setting up invoice recipients and adding taxes as needed. For recurring billing, simply click the Recurring Payments button at the bottom of your invoice.

But running a business isn’t just about invoicing. In addition to creating invoices, Zoho lets you send invoices, sign contracts, bill grants, track payments, and even track time. I also like how detailed the user files are. In addition to name and email, you can track their phone number, website, language, social media activity, and even add custom fields. This customization means that you can adapt Zoho to your needs.
I really like the user portal feature which I haven’t seen in other apps. It allows the customer to view their debts, payments made and loans available. Inviting customers is as easy as sending an email, and Zoho automatically generates it under the Customers tab.
Another area where Zoho shines is its automation features. You can create incredibly detailed workflows for actions like adding discounts or sending payment reminders when invoices are paid early. It takes a little time to set up, but it can save hours down the road. You can also connect Zoho Invoice for even more automation, automatically creating contacts, estimates, invoices and more when trigger events occur in other apps you use most.
