Once past the wall, you will be at the best swimming spot. Good thing there are saviors here. However, if you are a beginner, stay close to the beach!
The area around Poipu Beach is worth exploring. This place is very beautiful during sunrise and sunset. Be sure to give yourself some extra time to do this site justice.
Jaw Dropping North Shore Kauai Beaches (2023)
This Lydgate Park pool is perfect for beginners. The waters here are protected from the open sea year-round by man-made rock walls. Although there is no coral reef there, there are tons of colorful fish swimming around the outer reef.
Lydgate Park is family friendly. In addition to the beautiful, sandy beach, there are lifeguards, restrooms, picnic tables in the shade, and a large playground. This dive site in Kauai is a very special place. You will always see new fish arriving. A wave over the rock wall carried them away. We even saw a barracuda while we were there! If you want to see turtles, this is not the place to be. Best of luck to you at other dive sites like Anini or Poipu Beach on Kauai.
The lake is too shallow to enter. You will have plenty of time to pack your gear and get used to the water. The center of the pool can be about 10 feet deep. Most of the fish are hanging around the big rocks inside the reef walls. Be careful when looking here. A wave can form over the wall and hit you. Anini Beach is one of our favorite dive sites on Kauai for both beginners and experienced divers. The reef along Anini Beach is the longest in Hawaii. The water here can be very deep, especially at high tide. Because of this, it is a popular snorkeling spot for both beginners and intermediate to advanced divers. The coral reef at Anini Beach is full of colorful fish and sea turtles. If you’re lucky, you might even see a giant manta ray.
Koloa Landing Popular For Kauai Snorkeling And Diving
There are plenty of parking spots on this beach. Once you reach the bottom of the beach, the reef is about 300 feet west of the boat ramp. Lisa, a local marine biologist, told us that this place is called a turtle cleaning station. If you’re willing and able to swim about 60 yards, you can see tons of protected Green Sea Turtles.
Turtles can’t touch their backs, so they have to find other ways to keep their shells free of fungus and other things. These slow down the turtle and cause itchiness. Therefore, turtles not only find shelter and rocks that provide abundant food, but also build cleaning sites. All kinds of algae eaters live here, including angelfish, tangs, and damselflies. Turtles may take turns, often sharing the shellfish, or eating all the algae on the shellfish. It was very interesting to watch. Be aware of your surroundings and be careful not to go too far into strong currents.
