According to Working Mother, Welch’s Grape Fruit Juice conducted a survey of 2,000 women and found that most women spend 98 hours (98!) every week working in the office and taking care of household chores.

The women in the study were all parents to children between the ages of five and 12, so you can imagine the amount of time these women spend taking their children home to and from school, errands, doctor’s appointments, and friends’ houses. According to the results, most women’s day starts at 6:23 a.m. and ends at 8:31 p.m. – that’s all for 14 hours! And let’s be real, you don’t

How do women want to see themselves? Well, the sad answer is that they probably can’t take care of themselves. Welch’s study reported that the average woman only gets one hour and seven minutes of free time per day. Yes! With so little time to relax before fighting to keep your eyelids open, it’s not hard to understand why women need to take a break from time to time.
Participants also make their mothers fit, and, unsurprisingly, baby wipes and baby TVs top the list. Wine (duh!), drive-thru meals, Grandma and Grandpa, and reliable babysitters also make the list.
Given the amount of time moms spend on everyone but themselves, we need more moms to say, “I told you so,” right now. That’s right! Shut up and enjoy that glass of wine, Mom, because you deserve it.

But perhaps it is better to see it as a small price to pay for the precious years you spend with your children.
We all know you can’t list a missing skill on your resume, or promise a hiring manager that you’ll learn the job quickly. It doesn’t work. Fortunately, there are thousands of online courses, offered by universities, technical schools, and companies like Lynda.com, not to mention articles and books and videos, that can help you. Some courses are free, some are expensive. No matter what, education is an investment in your brave future, and you should do it.

Quitting your job is not easy. Restarting is not necessary either. But you are older and wiser and stronger now. The world is waiting for you to reenter, it doesn’t know yet.
